Digitial Kitchen, and getting to hell out of Washington

6/30/08

check out of the hostel, fare well you crazy kids and your water leakage.
grab our portfolios from the car, get a new tube and tire for my bike from Elliot Bay Cycles, a custom bike shop about 6 or 7 blocks from our hostel, while Craig calls Digital Kitchen from a near by coffee shop. We get an appointment with Steven, the studio manager from Digital Kitchen, and meet him about 15 blocks, uphill from where we were.

Our first independent from the university studio visit. Ah adulthood. ?
So Steve is really great, he gives us the tour of the studio, introduces us to producers and designers, and sits us down in their conference room for questions.
Advice from Steve:
DIRECTION? Do work you want to do, and make it interesting.
PROGRAMS? Know at least after effects really well
STYLE? Your reel can be clean and technically well done, but if it doesn't show your own voice and a different perspective, in short if it is boring, then that's a bad reel.
P.S. experiementation is huge... we walked down into their basement and their was one of their designers/photographers using the lighting room like a laboratory. I think he was trying to slow or freeze bubbles in oil or something. Not quite sure. I think it was for XBOX.

Leaving, he gave us tee shirts, a copy of their reel, his business card and a fiji water for the heat. We left profusely thanking him and giddily skipping down the street. We weren't even expecting a visit.

Pack up the car, and head out to Oregon.

Seattle, your streets are stealing the day time away.

ORGEON
4 hrs. ugh.
mountains again.
The drive into Oregon, was immediately better then Seattle. Hills, and layers of city to keep us happy. Trek over to Beaverton to visit Charles, Craig's cousin, who we were staying with.
